I didn't start dating until I was 25—here's what I learned | HelloGiggles
Every teenage parents nightmare is when the time arrives and their teenager says I am ready to start dating, do you think parents even today have different standards for what age is old enough to start dating depending on their teenagers gender? Being the parent of all sons I do not have the personal experience on teenage girls and dating, but I have to admit I would be much more protective over my teenage daughter and not only for the age she started dating. I agree this is not really fair to the teenage girls in the world, in fact in my own opinion teenage girls are much more mature to date responsibly than teenage boys at the same age. I strongly feel physical age is not the best way to decide if your teenager is ready for dating or not, how old is your teenager emotionally is much more important and a much more accurate way to determine when they are ready to start dating. Also parents should take into consideration what type of dating their teenager is interested in starting to do, the teenager who wishes to meet their date in a group dating atmosphere could begin dating much younger than the teenager who wishes to go on single dates alone.
Dating customs have changed since you were a teenager. The most striking difference is the young age at which children now begin dating: on average, twelve and a half for girls, and thirteen and a half for boys. However, you might not recognize it as dating per se. The recent trend among early adolescents is for boys and girls to socialize as part of a group. They march off en masse to the mall or to the movies, or join a gang tossing a Frisbee on the beach.
Circle of Moms member Lynn W. I'd say maybe 9th grade might be okay, but am not really sure. Many moms say that the dating issue is likely to come up for the first time during the tween years, and that it can make a parent surprisingly anxious.
