Male Patient Modesty. Many people wrongly assume that men don't care about their modesty. This is not true in many cases. Societal norms say men are not supposed to be modest; that this is a sign of weakness. To acknowledge embarrassment only serves to amplify it. Most men would not be comfortable with a strange woman watching them use a urinal and they feel the same awkward discomfort about female nurses seeing them naked.
Specializes in Family Practice, Primary Care. Has 6 years experience. So, a question has arisen in my mind since I have been in CNA class waiting for nursing school to start. There are only 2 guys in my class of 25, and the other guy is married and I'm gay. After doing clinicals in the hospital, I have yet to see another gay male CNA or nurse.
